Sarah Palin: You Betcha!
This documentary film has been made by British filmmaker Nick Broomfield who usually crafts his films equipped with a microphone, camera and allure for his subject. He will contact unfamiliar people, alienate and humiliate himself in order to get the footage he requires. Primarily he sets out with an open mind to Palin’s hometown in order to discover what catapulted her into the national spotlight. He interviews with her family, friends and town’s folk and at a book signing he approaches Palin herself requesting that she meet with him. Her million dollar smile sparkles and she replies “you betcha!” However after Palin’s camp discovers the content of some of the discussions Broomfield has been having with his interviewees, he finds himself an outsider from Palin’s inner circle. Captivated by this turn of events Broomfield delves deep and rapidly finds out that everybody in town is now either too scared to speak about the politician or is out of favor with the community for having done so. This situation allows Broomfield to construct a more interesting multifaceted portrait of his subject by shaping the world surrounding them than he would by way of a one on one interview. Broomfield is a playful filmmaker and this documentary shows him in an assortment of amusing situations. Sarah Palin: You Betcha! – A humorous movie ministering to its subject with the curiousness and irreverence it merits. Voting Palin? Watch this movie first!
